Physiology tutoring for SRJC PHYZ 1 students

For SRJC PHYZ 1 students, tutoring can help turn a collection of lecture details into an explanation you can use. Anthony works with the topics, study guides, and authorized practice materials from your current class to clarify mechanisms, trace cause and effect, and practice explaining processes from memory. Course structure and exam format vary by instructor and semester. Sessions cost $50/hour, with online tutoring available and in-person options in the North Bay.

North Bay Tutoring is an independent tutoring service and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Santa Rosa Junior College. Course structure and exam format vary by instructor and semester.

Use your lecture objectives to set the scope

Physiology explanations can become much broader than the question you are trying to answer. Your current lecture objectives and study guide help define the right scope. We can identify the key variables, arrange the mechanism in order, and connect each step to a course concept. The goal is an explanation you can reconstruct, with enough detail to address your instructor’s expectations without losing the main causal chain.

Learn the mechanism, then change the conditions

Once you can explain the original example, practice predicting what happens when one condition changes. Topics might include transport, feedback, cardiovascular reasoning, or respiratory reasoning when they appear in your materials. We can separate the initial effect from a later response and identify which assumptions the prediction depends on. If you get stuck, trace back to the first link you cannot explain instead of trying to memorize the entire answer.

  • Name the variable that changes and the direction of the change.
  • Explain the next effect before adding another step.
  • Check whether a regulatory response belongs in the explanation.

Make lecture exam practice more deliberate

Bring authorized practice questions, your attempted answers, and the reasoning behind them. We can work on explaining why an answer fits, reading graphs carefully, or organizing a short written response if your course asks for one. Practice should reflect the tasks in your current class; it should not depend on claims about an instructor’s past exams. We can also build a study plan that alternates new material with explaining earlier mechanisms without notes.
